Aomori
Aomori is the most northern prefecture on the main island of Honshu, however it is so much more than that. Food, festivals, culture, nature – Aomori has it all!
Did you know that the Fuji apple was not named after Mt. Fuji? It was actually created in the town of Fujisaki in Aomori and is now one of the most popular types of apples worldwide.
Aomori is also home to the Tsugaru Strait which is where some of the most expensive tuna is caught every year for high-end sushi restaurants in Tokyo.
Aomori is perhaps best known for the Hirosaki Cherry Blossom Festival in spring and the Aomori Nebuta Festival in summer. Seeing the towering floats parading through the night, showing detailed scenes from myths and folk tales, while spectators chant and dance along, is definitely not something to be missed.
